Fresher Than Your Local Grocery![]() 12/2/00
This sparely decorated storefront restaurant has much going for it. From the squash and gourds outside the door to the quinces that make up the fall table decorations, it is clear that the proprieters think that food is not just to be consumed, but beautiful in its own right.
The New American food served here is beautiful to look at without needing to achieve tall food status. The hearty winter menu has many great touches, including use of the underappreciated duck and rabbit dishes that often get passed over for more familar fare (most Americans don't like their menus to resemble a petting zoo). The food served is very fresh and beautifully done. The roasted beets and goat cheese ravioli starter was very well executed, with the right balance of the sweet and acid of the beets with the richness of the goat cheese in the ravioli.
The service is attentive but in need of better coordination, which is important in the small restaurant.
This is a good bet for a nice quiet dinner out in a nice part of Brooklyn that is filling up with some good restaurants. |
